I believe that the Church is the greatest transforming agent the world has ever known. It’s more effective than any organization and more powerful than any government. This is not ideology to me, this isn’t something I’m just hoping for, this is what I live for. It’s what I was born for. To build the local church is what I’ve been called to do. It is one of the greatest honors of my life.
I think we all want to be apart of something great. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve cried out to God, “Use Me!” It feels good and honorable to seek his will in this way through prayer. The funny thing is, He’s answered that prayer more times than I can count as well. The real question is, Am I really willing to do what it would take for God to use me? The Bible reveals that every time God ask something of His chosen people it requires change. MAJOR change. You see I can’t stay where I am and yet still go with God. His will ALWAYS requires change and obedience. Obedience is the assurance of God’s provision. Obedience begins in the heart as a willingness to do whatever God says. Or in my case, the willingness to be willing to be willing. Yet ultimately, obedience is expressed through action. What I’ve discovered in this season of life and ministry, is this. My actions tell the story of what I truly believe about God.
If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it. (Luke 9:23-24)
Here is what I know. Without Jesus, my life isn’t worth saving. With Jesus, my life can’t be lost. It was in church that I came to this realization. It was in God’s presence that I got a vision of how magnificent church can be.
This is the Church I see…
A church where those far from God can encounter his spirit in a mighty way.
A church where laughter can be heard for blocks as God’s people are filled with the love of community.
A church where creativity is expressed in everything we do as men and women use their gifts to worship God.
A church where perfection isn’t the goal, but rather Christlikeness is developed.
A church where people don’t give up on people. There is no ditch deep enough that God can’t pull you out of.
A church where marriages flourish and families thrive.
A church where generations are reaching across generations to lead the lost to Christ.
A church where compassion is never in short supply and encouragement is the native tongue.
A church where justice is demanded and outreach is given.
A church where love, acceptance, correction, mercy, forgiveness and freedom are found that lead to redemption.
A place where you can come, tore up from the floor up but not allowed to stay there… because we dare to believe that Christ can actually and literally, transform a life.
This is the church that I see. Its name is Redeemed Life Church.
